Yersiniosis Presenting as Suspected Appendicitis

Yersiniosis can produce acute right lower quadrant pain that closely resembles appendicitis. Both the clinical presentation and imaging findings may be indistinguishable between true appendicitis and Yersinia-related pseudoappendicitis, creating a direct diagnostic and management challenge at the time of initial evaluation.

When Yersiniosis cannot be excluded in a patient presenting with suspected appendicitis, the protocol addresses whether and when surgical exploration of the appendix is warranted. The specific criteria and the complete structured approach are available in the full protocol.
