What Is the Treatment of Yersiniosis?

Yersiniosis is an enteric infection that typically presents with diarrhea and abdominal pain. The appropriate management depends on clinical severity — not every presentation calls for the same intervention.

In uncomplicated cases — diarrhea and abdominal pain without severe systemic involvement — restoring fluid and nutritional balance is the clinical priority. Antibiotic therapy is not automatically indicated in this setting.

Treatment Overview

Management centres on supportive care: ensuring adequate hydration, correcting electrolyte losses, and addressing nutritional needs. Whether antibiotic therapy is warranted depends on factors detailed in the full protocol — the complete criteria, decision pathway, and structured regimen are available via the link below.

Mild intestinal ischemia usually resolves spontaneously.

Diarrhea requires adequate hydration, electrolytes, and nutrient supplementation (Table 5).

Uncomplicated infections (diarrhea and abdominal pain) usually do not require antibiotic therapy, which is indicated in severe cases.
