Treatment of Non-Severe Yellow Fever Managed on an Out-Patient Basis

This protocol applies to patients with yellow fever who present with no features of severe disease and are suitable for management on an out-patient basis. The approach emphasises structured supportive care with clear, measurable monitoring endpoints.

Clinical Scenario

Non-severe yellow fever describes patients who do not have features of severe disease and can safely be managed on an out-patient basis. Identifying this group correctly is the prerequisite for applying this protocol.

Treatment Approach

Management centres on a protocolized oral fluid strategy — structured intake tracking with active caregiver involvement — combined with an analgesic and antipyretic regimen appropriate for this disease. The protocol specifies metamizole (dipyrone) for pain and fever management in this population.

Note: paracetamol is not used in yellow fever — the protocol explicitly distinguishes this disease from other arboviral conditions in its pharmacological recommendations.

Full dosing, monitoring parameters, and the complete structured regimen are available in the protocol below.

Clinical Target

Adequate oral fluid intake should result in urination at least four to six times per day — a clear, observable endpoint for assessing hydration status in the outpatient setting.
