Xeroderma Pigmentosum with Neurological Abnormalities (Central & Peripheral Nervous Systems), Including XP/CS Complex

This protocol addresses the clinical scenario of xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) presenting with abnormalities of the central and peripheral nervous systems — including cases classified as XP/CS complex. Neurological involvement significantly shapes the management approach, as its progression and severity influence overall prognosis.

In a substantial proportion of patients, XP is complicated by central and peripheral nervous system involvement, such as psychomotor retardation. When XP/CS complex is diagnosed, management aligns with guidelines specific to XP neurological disease. These neurological complications, including poor oral intake, contribute to nutritional challenges that require dedicated intervention.

The structured protocol includes a specific nutritional intervention addressing undernutrition resulting from reduced oral intake — one component of the overall management framework for this presentation.

Full regimen, sequencing, and clinical criteria available in the complete protocol.

In the majority of Japanese patients, XP is complicated with abnormalities in the central and peripheral nervous systems, such as psychomotor retardations of which progression and severity greatly influence the prognosis.
If the patient is diagnosed with XP/CS complex, conform to the guidelines for XP neurological disease.
A percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy is often constructed for improvement of undernutrition caused by poor oral intake.
