First-Line Treatment for Virilization: A Multimodal Approach to Hirsutism

Virilization presenting with hirsutism is approached with a coordinated first-line strategy. The clinical priority is achieving meaningful, sustained reduction in unwanted hair growth — specifically slower and finer regrowth — through a combination of medical and physical interventions.

The most effective first-line strategy is multimodal. It involves a hormonal suppressive agent combined with physical hair removal techniques; an adjuvant topical treatment may also be incorporated for facial hirsutism. The full selection of options, their sequencing, and clinical decision points are detailed in the complete protocol.

The primary target is significant improvement in hirsutism — demonstrably slower, finer hair regrowth. Response assessment requires adequate time on therapy; at minimum six months of treatment before the effect can be meaningfully evaluated.
