This protocol addresses viral conjunctivitis occurring in the context of molluscum contagiosum. Conjunctivitis — and sometimes keratitis — develops through viral shedding from the eyelid lesion(s) directly onto the ocular surface.
Intervention is indicated in symptomatic patients in whom the eyelid lesion(s) are identified as the source of ongoing surface disease.
Management targets the responsible eyelid lesion(s) directly. The protocol involves physical removal of the lesion(s); multiple procedural approaches are outlined in the full regimen. The complete method selection and procedural details are not summarised here.
Conjunctivitis and keratitis from molluscum contagiosum are due to viral shedding from the eyelid lesion(s) onto the surface of the eye.
Treatment to remove the lesions is indicated in symptomatic patients.
Treatment options include incision and curettage (aggressive enough to cause bleeding), simple excision, excision and cautery, and cryotherapy.
