Vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) is a recurrent bilateral inflammatory condition of the ocular surface. For most patients, management remains topical — but in a small subset, escalation to systemic treatment becomes a clinical consideration.
This protocol addresses the decision point at which systemic immunosuppressive therapy is considered for vernal keratoconjunctivitis — a threshold reached only in a minority of cases.
Systemic immunosuppression is rarely warranted in VKC. When it is indicated, the approach draws on a defined set of systemic agents — the specific options, selection criteria, and sequencing are contained in the full structured protocol.
