This protocol addresses vasomotor rhinitis in patients whose nasal complaints are limited to rhinorrhea — with neither nasal obstruction nor nasal congestion present.
When rhinorrhea is the sole presenting symptom, empiric treatment from one of several available topical or oral agent classes may be considered — the appropriate choice and sequence depend on the full clinical assessment.
If the presenting symptom is solely rhinorrhea, a topical anticholinergic is the logical first step.
Consider empiric use of topical decongestants, oral decongestants, or oral antihistamines.
