Treatment of Recurrent Primary Urethral Carcinoma After Primary Treatment
Clinical Scenario
This protocol applies to patients with primary urethral carcinoma who develop a urethral recurrence following completion of primary treatment. The recurrence is localised to the urethra (urethral recurrence) rather than representing distant or systemic progression.
Treatment Approach (Partial Overview)
Management at this stage involves a salvage intervention targeting the site of urethral recurrence. The approach draws on surgical or radiotherapy-based modalities.

References
- Offer salvage surgery or RT to patients with urethral recurrence after primary treatment.
- A multicentre study reported that patients who were treated with surgery as primary therapy and underwent surgery or RT-based salvage treatment for recurrent solitary or concomitant urethral disease demonstrated similar survival rates compared to patients who never developed recurrence after primary treatment.
