Treatment of Unruptured Cerebral Aneurysm in the Posterior Circulation

Clinical Scenario

This protocol covers adult patients with an unruptured intracranial aneurysm (UIA) located in the posterior circulation — the vertebral, basilar, and posterior cerebral arteries and their branches, excluding the posterior communicating artery.

Anatomical Situation

The aneurysm is situated in the posterior circulation: vertebral, basilar, or posterior cerebral artery, or one of their branches — not at the posterior communicating artery. This specific location defines the sub-population addressed by this protocol.

Treatment Approach (Overview)

For this population, an endovascular approach is the first option to consider. The complete evaluation pathway, procedural specifics, and decision framework are available in the full protocol.
