Treatment of Typhoid Fever in Uncomplicated Enteric Fever with a Ciprofloxacin-Susceptible Organism

This protocol applies to patients presenting with typhoid fever as uncomplicated enteric fever, where the infecting organism is susceptible to ciprofloxacin. The goal is rapid symptom resolution using a targeted oral antibiotic course.

Clinical Scenario

Uncomplicated enteric fever without severe systemic features, caused by a ciprofloxacin-susceptible organism. Patients in this setting can typically be managed at home with oral antibiotics, provided there is reliable care and close medical follow-up for complications or failure to respond to therapy.

Treatment Approach

Ciprofloxacin given orally is the empiric treatment of choice for this presentation. The complete regimen — including the specific dosing strategy for both paediatric and adult patients — is available in the full structured protocol.

Clinical Goal

Rapid clearance of fever and symptoms, with low rates of post-treatment carriage.
