Diffuse tenosynovial giant cell tumor (D-TGCT) is a locally aggressive form of the disease characterized by multinodular proliferation within large joints. Its tendency for local destruction and recurrence requires a structured surgical approach tailored to the extent of involvement.
D-TGCT forms multiple nodules that proliferate in larger joints — most commonly the knee — and is associated with a significant risk of local tissue destruction. The diffuse pattern distinguishes this presentation from the localized form and informs the choice of surgical strategy.
The current standard of treatment is surgical. Management centers on total synovectomy of the affected joint, with the specific technique — and whether additional reconstructive intervention is incorporated — determined by disease extent and joint involvement. The complete evidence-based regimen, including procedural selection criteria, is available via the full protocol.
