Treatment of Stage IB Gastric Cancer After Surgery Without Preoperative Chemotherapy

Clinical Scenario

This protocol addresses patients with stage IB gastric cancer who have already undergone surgical resection and did not receive chemotherapy before the operation. In this post-operative setting, treatment decisions differ from those made when perioperative chemotherapy was part of the initial plan.

Patient Population

Patients who have had surgery for stage IB gastric cancer without prior (preoperative) chemotherapy are candidates for adjuvant treatment. Guideline evidence supports adjuvant chemotherapy in this group at a high level of recommendation.

Treatment Approach

Adjuvant (post-operative) chemotherapy with a doublet regimen is recommended for a total duration of 6 months. The regimen combines a fluoropyrimidine with a second agent — full details, sequencing, and eligibility criteria are in the complete protocol.
