This protocol addresses patients with stomach cancer whose disease has progressed to a point where the tumour cannot be surgically removed, and who have developed gastric outlet obstruction as a direct consequence of the unresectable cancer.
Gastric outlet obstruction caused by unresectable gastric cancer is the defining comorbidity in this scenario. The obstruction prevents normal gastric emptying, significantly impairing the patient's quality of life and nutritional status, and requires palliative intervention.
Palliative relief of the obstruction is the primary goal. Two procedural approaches are considered, and the selection between them is guided by a multidisciplinary team evaluation of the patient's clinical circumstances and preferences.
