Treatment of WHO Grade III (Anaplastic) Ependymoma of the Spinal Cord
This protocol covers the first-line management of WHO grade III (anaplastic) ependymoma of the spinal cord — a specific histological classification with dedicated surgical and postoperative management considerations.
Clinical Scenario
WHO grade III (anaplastic) ependymoma of the spinal cord. The anaplastic classification defines the treatment pathway for this first-line protocol.
Treatment Approach
The primary management strategy centres on surgical intervention targeting the spinal cord tumour. The full structured regimen — including postoperative steps, sequencing, and all clinical decision points — is detailed in the protocol.
Complete protocol details are available in the structured regimen; only a partial summary is shown here.

Gross total resection is the goal of spinal ependymoma surgery.
In case of WHO grade III (anaplastic) ependymomas, postoperative radiotherapy with doses of 45–54 Gy is recommended regardless of the extent of resection.
