This protocol applies to sialolithiasis of the parotid gland where the calculus is situated in the papilla or distal excretory duct — a specific anatomical location that defines the clinical approach.
Stones in the papilla and distal excretory duct represent a defined subset of parotid sialolithiasis. The location of the calculus within this segment of the duct is a key factor in determining which interventional options are applicable.

Stones in the Papilla and Distal Excretory Duct
ESWL is no longer a preferred treatment modality and is indicated only in selected cases—e.g., when there is unfavorable duct anatomy and/or a difficult stone location (e.g., extraductal).
ESWL can then again be supplemented with intSE and ISWL.
