Treatment of Sepsis or Septic Shock with Low Risk of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) Infection
Not all patients with sepsis or septic shock carry the same risk of MRSA. When the clinical picture points to a low likelihood of MRSA infection, antimicrobial selection should reflect that risk assessment rather than defaulting to the broadest possible coverage.
This protocol applies to adults presenting with sepsis or septic shock who are assessed as being at low risk of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection.

For adults with sepsis or septic shock at low risk of MRSA, we suggest against using empiric antimicrobials with MRSA coverage, as compared with using antimicrobials without MRSA coverage.
