Treatment of Rosacea with Inflammatory Papules and Pustules in the Central Region of the Face

This protocol addresses rosacea presenting with inflammatory papules and pustules in the central facial region, accompanied by facial erythema — the hallmarks of subtype II papulopustular rosacea.

In subtype II rosacea, inflammatory papules and pustules are seen in the central region of the face. Inflammatory lesions such as papules and pustules as well as erythema characterise this presentation and define the therapeutic target.

For mild papulopustular rosacea, topical therapy alone can be effective. Several distinct topical agents have demonstrated benefit in this setting. The full protocol details which agents are recommended, the strength of evidence behind each, and the framework for selection among them.

The primary targets are reduction of inflammatory lesion count and improvement of facial erythema. The strongest reduction in lesion count is clinically observed around 6 weeks.
