Treatment of Renal Osteodystrophy with Osteoporosis in CKD G1–G2 or CKD G3a–G3b

This protocol covers the management of renal osteodystrophy in patients with chronic kidney disease stages G1–G2 who have osteoporosis and/or high fracture risk, and in patients with CKD G3a–G3b whose parathyroid hormone is within the normal range and who also present with osteoporosis and/or high fracture risk.

Patients with CKD G1–G2 presenting with osteoporosis and/or high fracture risk, or patients with CKD G3a–G3b with PTH in the normal range and concurrent osteoporosis and/or high fracture risk, represent a distinct sub-population in whom bone disease assessment and fracture prevention are clinically relevant.

In these CKD stages, the management of osteoporosis and fracture risk involves osteoporosis medications — the specific options, eligibility criteria, and full management algorithm are available in the complete protocol.
