Este protocolo aborda a queratite intersticial decorrente de causa bacteriana, especificamente nos casos em que a etiologia sifilítica foi excluída. O manejo combina terapia ocular local com tratamento direcionado à infecção sistêmica subjacente.
A queratite intersticial de origem bacteriana — excluindo a queratite intersticial sifilítica — engloba um grupo distinto de casos em que a inflamação corneana é impulsionada por um processo bacteriano sistêmico diferente da sífilis. O tratamento da infecção sistêmica subjacente é fundamental para a resolução; a terapia local isolada é insuficiente.
Corticosteroids have a role in the local therapy of most forms of bacteria-mediated interstitial keratitis, but all will require specific systemic antibiotics to cure the underlying disease.
With the exception of syphilis, all of the other forms of bacteria-mediated interstitial keratitis benefit from the treatment of the underlying systemic infection.
