Treatment of Primary Breast Lymphoma in Primary Breast Follicular Lymphoma

Primary breast lymphoma presenting as follicular lymphoma (PB-FL) is a recognised but uncommon clinical scenario. It follows a less aggressive course than other primary breast lymphoma subtypes, and this shapes how treatment is approached.

Primary breast follicular lymphoma (PB-FL) is less common and less aggressive than primary breast diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. Because fewer case reports and case series exist, treatment decisions draw on a limited but informative evidence base.
Radiation therapy plays a central role in managing PB-FL, and the specific combination of modalities depends on disease grade. The complete structured regimen — including the grade-specific algorithm and all combination strategies — is available in the full protocol.

Primary breast follicular lymphoma (PB-FL) is less common and less aggressive than PB-DLBCL, and as such fewer case reports and case series exist.

This study also found that radiation therapy alone, or in combination with surgery, was associated with a reduced risk of relapse compared to that of surgery alone.

This has since been supported by others; in one case report, low-grade PB-FL was successfully treated with radiation therapy, and in another, high-grade PB-FL was successfully treated with radiation therapy in combination with Rituximab-Cyclophosphamide, hydroxydaunorubicin, oncovin, prednisone (R-CHOP).
