Treatment of Primary Breast Lymphoma in Burkitt Lymphoma

Clinical Scenario

This protocol applies to primary breast lymphoma (PBL) presenting as the Burkitt lymphoma histological subtype — among the rarest variants of this disease category.

Primary breast Burkitt lymphoma (PB-BL) is one of the rarest histological variants of PBL, although its growth is extremely rapid and aggressive and can be fatal if not diagnosed early and treated appropriately.
Treatment Approach

Given the aggressive biology of PB-BL, management may involve surgical and/or intensive systemic chemotherapy, with the specific strategy individualized to patient circumstances. The therapeutic goal is complete remission of the breast lymphoma.

Target: Complete remission

Successful PB-BL treatment outcomes have been achieved with bilateral mastectomy followed by adjuvant chemotherapy, although due to the aggressive nature of PB-BL, most cases require an intensive chemotherapy regimen.
