Treatment of Preseptal Cellulitis Associated with Sinusitis in Children Under 18
Preseptal cellulitis in pediatric patients is frequently associated with sinusitis. Recognising this association is essential — it directly informs how the condition is managed in children under 18.
This protocol covers children under 18 years presenting with preseptal cellulitis where sinusitis (rhinosinusitis) is an associated finding. In this age group, the sinonasal source is a common driver that requires concurrent attention alongside treatment of the periorbital infection.
References
As preseptal cellulitis in children is most commonly associated with sinusitis, antibiotic therapy such as cephalexin or ampicillin should be combined with a nasal spray decongestant, such as oxymetazoline.
