Sleep Disorder in Long COVID — What Is the Recommended Management Approach?
Sleep disturbance is a recognised manifestation of post COVID-19 condition (long COVID). When a sleep disorder is present alongside persistent post-COVID symptoms, a structured, cause-focused evaluation is recommended.
Clinical scenario
Post COVID-19 condition (long COVID) presenting with a sleep disorder. Management in this setting is guided by the specific factors and underlying conditions that may be driving or perpetuating the sleep disturbance.
Management approach (partial)
The approach involves a systematic review of factors that may be disrupting sleep — including habits, substance use, and the sleep environment — alongside identification and evaluation of underlying conditions that may be contributing.
The complete structured regimen, including the full assessment sequence and all intervention steps, is detailed in the protocol.

- If there is a sleep disorder, it is recommended to eliminate factors that disturb sleep (habits, use of substances, the environment, etc.) and identify and address causative conditions (such as sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome, pain, anxiety, etc.) (G, I).
