Treatment of Pleural Mesothelioma in Patients with Performance Status (PS) 2 or Greater

This protocol is specific to patients with pleural mesothelioma who have a performance status (PS) of 2 or greater — a level of functional limitation that substantially shapes which treatment approaches are appropriate and feasible.

Reduced functional capacity in this disease requires a differentiated clinical strategy. Treatment decisions hinge on where the patient falls within this performance range, with palliative-oriented strategies at the core of management. For some patients in this group, an active treatment component may still be considered; for others, the clinical approach is different. The precise eligibility criteria and the options applicable at each level of functional impairment are outlined in the full protocol.

Selected patients with a poor PS (2) may be offered single-agent palliative chemotherapy or palliative care alone. Patients with a PS of 3 or greater should receive palliative care.
