Treatment of Parotid Gland Cancer: Metastatic Non-Adenoid Cystic Salivary Gland Carcinoma

This protocol addresses systemic treatment for patients with parotid gland cancer classified as non-adenoid cystic salivary gland carcinoma who present with metastatic disease and are candidates for initiation of systemic therapy.

Clinical scenario: Non-adenoid cystic salivary gland carcinoma with metastatic disease — patient is a candidate for systemic therapy, and treatment selection is driven by the tumor's individual molecular profile.

Treatment approach

When a clinical trial is not available, the recommended strategy is targeted therapy selected according to the tumor's molecular characteristics. Which agent or regimen applies depends on which specific molecular finding is present — the complete decision algorithm is available in the full protocol below.

References

For patients with nonadenoid cystic salivary gland cancer who are candidates for initiation of systemic therapy, targeted therapy based on tumor molecular alterations (ie, AR, HER2, and NTRK) may be offered if a clinical trial is not available.
