Pain in Parkinson's disease is not uniform. When the pain is specifically neuropathic in character — and nociceptive pain has been excluded — a targeted pharmacological protocol distinct from general pain management applies.
This protocol is for patients with Parkinson's disease whose pain is confirmed to be neuropathic in nature. It does not apply where the pain is nociceptive. Accurate pain-type classification is the prerequisite for this approach.
Management is pharmacological, involving an antidepressant-class agent as part of a combination strategy.
