What Is the Treatment of Otomycosis? First-Line Topical Antifungal Approach

Otomycosis is a fungal infection of the external ear canal characterised by accumulation of fungal debris. Effective management follows a defined sequence — beginning with mechanical clearance and proceeding to targeted topical antifungal therapy — to eliminate both the active infection and residual spores.

Treatment Approach

Ear toilet — suction clearance of the fungal mass and debris — is the essential first step. This is followed by topical antifungal eardrops, with a specific antifungal agent recommended as the agent of choice. Adjunctive topical preparations addressing pain, pruritus, oedema, and secondary bacterial involvement may also have a role in the early phase. The full agent selection, combination, and duration are specified in the structured protocol.

Clinical Goal

Complete eradication of fungal spores and full resolution of otomycosis following a defined course of topical antifungal therapy.
