This protocol covers oral cavity cancer patients presenting with locoregional recurrence following prior treatment — either radiotherapy or surgical resection. The appropriate management strategy depends on whether the recurrence is resectable and whether the patient has already received radiation to the region.
Two distinct situations are addressed: patients with a resectable locoregional recurrence after previous radiotherapy or surgery, and previously irradiated patients with a non-resectable locoregional recurrence.
Management may involve a surgical intervention or, in selected previously irradiated patients, a radiation-based strategy with curative intent. The complete regimen — including full eligibility criteria, sequencing, and procedural detail — is available in the structured protocol below.
Salvage surgery should be considered in all patients with a resectable locoregional recurrence after previous radiotherapy or surgery.
In already irradiated patients with a non-resectable locoregional recurrence, a second irradiation with curative intention should be considered.
