This protocol addresses nontyphoidal salmonellosis with confirmed or suspected Salmonella bacteraemia in infants under 3 months of age — a population that requires prompt, structured management.
Salmonella bacteraemia in this age group carries an increased risk for serious complications. Current guidance recommends that CSF analysis be performed in all infants under three months presenting with bacteraemia, to evaluate for disseminated disease.
