Treatment of Nipah Virus Infection in Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome
Nipah virus infection can present with severe pulmonary involvement. One recognised syndromic presentation is acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), which requires prompt respiratory support alongside management of the underlying infection.
This protocol addresses Nipah virus infection in patients who develop acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). ARDS is among the recognised syndromic presentations of Nipah virus infection, alongside myocarditis and encephalitis.
In mild ARDS, the initial respiratory management involves a non-invasive ventilation strategy as the first-line intervention. The complete protocol specifies the indications, escalation criteria, and additional management steps.
The syndromic presentations are ARDS, Myocarditis and Encephalitis.
For mild ARDS, non invasive ventilation stands as the first-line approach.
