Treatment of Multiple Sclerosis in Clinically Isolated Syndrome with Abnormal Brain MRI Lesions

A first demyelinating episode — a clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) — accompanied by brain MRI findings consistent with multiple sclerosis represents a distinct clinical situation. When the patient has CIS with abnormal MRI lesions suggestive of MS but does not yet meet the full diagnostic criteria for MS, specific management is indicated.

Clinical scenario Clinically isolated syndrome; abnormal brain MRI with lesions suggestive of multiple sclerosis; patient does not fulfil the diagnostic criteria for multiple sclerosis.
