Treatment of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type 2A with Cutaneous Lichen Amyloidosis and Pruritus

In a recognised subset of patients with Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2A (MEN2A), the presentation is complicated by cutaneous lichen amyloidosis (CLA) — a skin condition marked by intense, localised pruritus that affects the scapular region of the back, corresponding to dermatomes T2–T6.

CLA in this context manifests as intense pruritus that is characteristically localised to the scapular region. The classic symptom is pruritus that improves with sun exposure and worsens during periods of stress.

Management in this clinical context involves a tyrosine kinase inhibitor. The complete regimen — including specific agent, monitoring criteria, and clinical decision points — is available in the full structured protocol.

The classic symptom of CLA is intense pruritus that improves with sun exposure and worsens during periods of stress.

Three patients with advanced MTC and CLA experienced rapid disappearance of the skin disease in response to treatment with the tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI), vandetanib; however, the CLA reappeared following dose reduction.
