This protocol addresses motion sickness specifically in children aged 6–12 years. The age group shapes which management strategies are appropriate and in what order they should be applied.
Behavioral countermeasures are recommended as the first step before other interventions are considered. These are non-pharmacological strategies applied before and during travel. The full structured sequence of recommended measures is available in the complete protocol.
For children aged 6–12 years, dimenhydrinate (Dramamine for Kids; chewable), 12–25 mg per dose, or diphenhydramine (Benadryl), 0.5–1 mg/kg per dose up to 25 mg, can be given 1–2 hours before travel.
Behavioral countermeasures, such as the ones mentioned before, should be tried first.
