This protocol addresses curative-intent management of early-stage lip cancer at the commissure — specifically T1 or small T2 lesions with a greatest dimension of 2 cm or smaller.
The patient presents with an early-stage (T1 or small T2) malignant neoplasm of the commissure of lip. The lesion measures 2 cm or smaller in greatest dimension and is suitable for local curative treatment.
Early-stage lip cancer in this setting can be treated equally well by surgery or radiation therapy. Both modalities achieve comparable outcomes for small lesions at this site.
Small lip lesions at the commissure may be managed by simple surgical excision or by radiation-based approaches, including external beam radiotherapy or brachytherapy. Which modality is selected, and the specific technical parameters applied, are set out in full in the structured protocol.
