Treatment of Early-Stage (T1/Small T2) Malignant Neoplasm of the Commissure of Lip

This protocol addresses curative-intent management of early-stage lip cancer at the commissure — specifically T1 or small T2 lesions with a greatest dimension of 2 cm or smaller.

Clinical Scenario

The patient presents with an early-stage (T1 or small T2) malignant neoplasm of the commissure of lip. The lesion measures 2 cm or smaller in greatest dimension and is suitable for local curative treatment.

Early-stage lip cancer in this setting can be treated equally well by surgery or radiation therapy. Both modalities achieve comparable outcomes for small lesions at this site.

Treatment Approach (Partial Overview)

Small lip lesions at the commissure may be managed by simple surgical excision or by radiation-based approaches, including external beam radiotherapy or brachytherapy. Which modality is selected, and the specific technical parameters applied, are set out in full in the structured protocol.

Complete regimen details, fractionation, and selection guidance are available via the protocol below.

Small lesions are managed by simple surgical excision and primary closure.

Equally good results can be achieved with fractionated EBRT or brachytherapy.
