Treatment of Liver Cirrhosis with Long-Standing or Recurrent Ascites

Ascites that persists or recurs repeatedly in the setting of liver cirrhosis represents a distinct clinical challenge requiring a structured, stepwise diuretic strategy.

This protocol addresses patients with liver cirrhosis who have long-standing or recurrent ascites — a subgroup in whom diuretic therapy must be titrated carefully and sequentially according to individual response.

Therapeutic approach

The approach centres on combination diuretic therapy with doses adjusted in sequence based on response. When a patient shows a weak response to the primary diuretic, a specific alternative loop diuretic may be incorporated into the plan. Full regimen details, sequencing, and clinical decision points are available in the complete protocol.
