Myxoid liposarcoma (MLS) is a recognised histological subtype of liposarcoma with a distinct treatment profile. Among soft tissue sarcoma subtypes, MLS is identified as one of the histological types that gains the greatest benefit from radiotherapy, making accurate subtype identification central to first-line treatment planning.
Management of myxoid liposarcoma is centred on surgical resection combined with radiotherapy. The radiotherapy component is particularly effective in this subtype. An alternative reduced radiotherapy regimen has demonstrated activity in MLS. Where neoadjuvant systemic therapy is selected for appropriate patients, established chemotherapy is used, with an alternative agent available as an option in this subtype.
