Treatment of Locally Advanced, Metastatic, or Clinically Unresectable Liposarcoma

Clinical Scenario

This protocol applies to patients with locally advanced, metastatic, or clinically unresectable liposarcoma — disease that is not amenable to curative surgical resection. In this setting, systemic treatment is offered with an essentially palliative intent.

Treatment Approach

For fit patients with disease progression, further-line systemic therapy may be considered. The specific options, eligibility criteria, and recommended sequencing are not summarised in full here — enrolment in a clinical trial is a priority consideration for patients with pretreated advanced disease.

Advanced/metastatic, clinically unresectable STS

In patients with locally advanced/metastatic, non-resectable disease, systemic treatment with an essentially palliative intent can be proposed.

Further-line systemic therapy can be considered in fit patients with advanced STS and disease progression [II, B].

In general, patients with pretreated advanced STS should be considered for clinical trials.
