Treatment of Lichen Sclerosus at Extragenital Sites

Lichen sclerosus occurring at extragenital sites follows a specific clinical pathway. The protocol below is designed for patients with LS lesions located outside the anogenital region.

Clinical Scenario

Extragenital lichen sclerosus — LS affecting skin at non-genital locations. This presentation is managed through a dedicated protocol distinct from genital LS.

Treatment Approach

UV-based phototherapy is a recommended intervention for extragenital lichen sclerosus.

The precise modality, full treatment parameters, and conditions under which alternative or adjunct approaches apply are contained in the complete regimen.
Clinical Goal

Improvement of LS lesions.

We recommend UV therapy in patients with extragenital lichen sclerosus.

Based on these findings, NB-UV-B might be considered as an alternative treatment for extragenital LS in centres where UVA1 is not available.

However, treatment of extragenital LS with tacrolimus combined with UV light was successfully used in few patients.
