This protocol addresses leukemia cutis in patients whose cutaneous infiltrations have not adequately responded to — or have recurred following — systemic therapy for the underlying leukemia, including cases where hematologic remission has been achieved but skin involvement persists.
The first-line approach is systemic therapy appropriate to the specific subtype of leukemia. Escalation to this protocol is indicated when cutaneous infiltrations fail to achieve complete or partial response in the setting of hematologic remission, or when skin infiltration recurs after initial response.
For resistant or recurrent cutaneous disease after systemic therapy, local radiotherapy-based strategies are used. Specialized radiation techniques addressing more extensive cutaneous involvement have also been described for this refractory setting. The full indications, sequencing, and technical parameters are in the complete protocol.
