Leprosy preventive treatment for contacts of a leprosy patient aged 2 years and above
Clinical Scenario
This protocol covers individuals aged 2 years and above who are identified contacts of a confirmed leprosy patient. Before initiating any preventive approach, both active leprosy and tuberculosis (TB) disease must be excluded, and the absence of other contraindications confirmed.
Preventive Approach
Guidelines support a single-dose preventive treatment strategy for eligible contacts in this age group. The specific agent, eligibility details, and any applicable clinical considerations are defined in the full protocol.
References
The guidelines recommend the use of SDR as preventive treatment for adult and child (2 years of age and above) contacts of leprosy patients, after excluding leprosy and TB disease and in the absence of other contraindications.
Single-dose rifampicin (SDR) may be used as leprosy preventive treatment for contacts of leprosy patients (adults and children aged 2 years and above), after excluding leprosy and tuberculosis (TB) disease, and in the absence of other contraindications.
