Treatment of Laryngeal Cancer with Local Recurrence in or Near the Original Site

When laryngeal cancer returns to or near the place it first developed, the clinical approach depends on what surgery or other treatment was done previously and whether further surgery can be performed.

Clinical Scenario

This protocol addresses laryngeal cancer that has recurred locally — in or near the same place it originally started. A common situation is recurrence in patients who previously underwent limited (partial) laryngectomy.

Local recurrence in people who have already had limited surgery such as partial laryngectomy can often be treated with more extensive surgery.

Treatment Approach

For eligible patients, more extensive surgical resection is a primary consideration. Depending on the situation, this may be followed by further therapy. When surgical resection is not feasible, systemic and radiation-based strategies are available alternatives.

The complete protocol — including the full sequence of options, eligibility criteria, and agent-specific guidance — is available via the structured regimen below.
