This protocol applies to patients with interstitial cystitis whose urinary frequency remains inadequately controlled after a course of nerve stimulation therapy, and who require a further escalation in management.
Pudendal nerve stimulation or sacral nerve stimulation was the prior line of therapy. Escalation to this protocol is triggered when that intervention fails to achieve a meaningful reduction in urinary frequency.
When nerve stimulation options have been exhausted, the protocol advances to a definitive surgical intervention. This step is considered a last-resort measure for refractory cases.
