Clinical Scenario

Hypomagnesaemia is stratified by severity according to the measured serum magnesium concentration:

Mild: 0.71–0.9 mmol/L Moderate: 0.4–0.7 mmol/L

HYPOmagnesaemia (Mild: 0.9–0.71 mmol/L, Moderate: 0.7–0.4 mmol/L, Severe: less than 0.4 mmol/L)
Treat with oral supplementation:
Magnesium aspartate tablets 500 mg (e.g. Magmin®) 1–2 tablets (1.54–3.08 mmol) twice daily. Up to 6 tablets (9.24 mmol) daily in divided doses may be required.
