Hypomagnesaemia
ICD-10 E61.2 · ICD-11 5C64.41

Treatment of Hypomagnesaemia with Serum Magnesium 0.4–0.9 mmol/L (Mild to Moderate)

This protocol addresses the clinical management of confirmed mild or moderate hypomagnesaemia, defined by a measured serum magnesium level in the range of 0.4–0.9 mmol/L.

Clinical Scenario

Hypomagnesaemia is stratified by severity according to the measured serum magnesium concentration:

Mild: 0.71–0.9 mmol/L Moderate: 0.4–0.7 mmol/L

This protocol covers both mild and moderate deficiency (serum Mg 0.4–0.9 mmol/L). Severe hypomagnesaemia (below 0.4 mmol/L) is a distinct clinical scenario managed separately.

Treatment Approach

For patients with serum Mg 0.4–0.9 mmol/L, the evidence-based first-line approach involves oral supplementation. The complete structured regimen — including agent, dosing schedule, and duration — is available in the full protocol.
