Treatment of Hydatid Disease of Liver with Uncomplicated CE1 or CE3a Hepatic Cyst, 5–10 cm
Clinical Scenario
This protocol applies to uncomplicated hepatic cystic echinococcosis with a cyst classified as type CE1 or CE3a, measuring 5–10 cm in diameter — a well-defined clinical sub-population with a specific evidence-based treatment pathway.
Treatment Approach
For this cyst type and size range, a percutaneous interventional procedure combined with an oral antiparasitic agent is the recommended approach.
Full regimen details, sequencing, and management of specific clinical variations are in the complete structured protocol.
Treatment Goals
Response is assessed by cyst changes at 3 months — including detachment of parasitic layers from the outer cyst wall, size reduction, or stage modification. Complete response is evaluated no earlier than 12 months after the end of treatment.
References
- In patients with uncomplicated hepatic cyst types CE1 or CE3a 5–10 cm, PAIR combined with ALB is suggested.
- A lack of response is defined as an absence of cyst changes after 3 months of treatment (detachment of the parasitic layers from the outer cyst wall, size reduction, or stage modification).
- Complete response should be evaluated not earlier than 12 months after treatment end.
