Treatment of Malignant Giant Cell Tumor of Bone (Primary or Secondary)

Malignant giant cell tumor of bone (GCTB) represents a rare and aggressive subset of GCTB that can arise as a primary malignancy or develop secondarily. Surgical management is central, and the approach to additional therapy differs depending on whether the disease is primary or secondary in origin.

Clinical Scenario
This protocol applies to patients with malignant giant cell tumor of bone โ€” encompassing both primary malignant GCTB and secondary malignant GCTB. Surgery is the mainstay treatment for malignant GCTB. For patients with localized malignant GCTB, wide resection is the recommended therapeutic option.
Treatment Approach
For localized disease, surgical intervention forms the foundation of management. Whether additional systemic therapy is appropriate depends on the nature of the malignancy โ€” the role of such therapy differs substantially between primary and secondary presentations.
The full protocol specifies the complete management algorithm, including when and how additional therapy may be considered.
