When a submucosal lesion smaller than 2 cm is found in the esophagogastric junction or duodenum and GIST is suspected, a dedicated clinical pathway determines how to proceed — beginning with endoscopic evaluation.
Esophagogastric or duodenal submucosal gastrointestinal stromal tumor smaller than 2 cm. These small lesions require careful characterisation before any therapeutic decision is made, as management differs from larger or more advanced GISTs.
Primary management is guided by endoscopic ultrasound. What follows — and which further steps apply — depends on the findings obtained.
