Functional Dyspepsia in Helicobacter pylori Infection

This protocol covers functional dyspepsia (FD) in patients with confirmed Helicobacter pylori infection — a specific subpopulation for which a targeted, evidence-based management pathway applies.

The patient presents with functional dyspepsia and is positive for Helicobacter pylori infection. Evidence identifies H. pylori-positive patients with FD as candidates for a specific therapeutic intervention, separate from standard symptomatic management alone.

Management centres on an eradication-based approach directed at the underlying H. pylori infection. The complete protocol — including agent selection, sequencing, and clinical decision points — is available in the full structured regimen below.

Full regimen detail available via the link below.

The primary endpoint is cure of functional dyspepsia symptoms, assessed at 12 months.

Eradication therapy is an efficacious treatment for H. pylori-positive patients with FD.
Although the treatment effect is modest, cure of symptoms at 12 months is a stringent endpoint, and it is likely that eradication therapy for H. pylori-positive patients with FD is cost-effective, as it only needs to be taken for 1-2 weeks.
