Individuals with Friedreich ataxia who experience recurrent urinary tract infections represent a specific sub-population requiring a structured management approach. Recurrent UTIs in this population carry distinct clinical implications that inform the choice of prophylactic strategy.
We suggest use of non-antibiotic agents, and if unsuccessful, antibiotic prophylactic agents over no antibiotic prophylaxis for the management of recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) in individuals with Friedreich ataxia.
