This protocol addresses the management of dysarthria — motor speech impairment — in individuals diagnosed with Friedreich ataxia. Dysarthria is a recognised manifestation of the disease that requires a tailored clinical response distinct from other aspects of ataxia management.
In people with Friedreich ataxia, dysarthria represents a specific functional impairment of speech production. Addressing it requires an approach that accounts for both the progressive neurological nature of the disease and the available evidence for speech-directed interventions.
